Make Candidates an Offer They Cant Refuse

Make Candidates an Offer They Cant Refuse Make Candidates an Offer They Cant Refuse As an employer, you want to hire the best candidates. Some will be interested in immediate incentives. Others will want long-term benefits. Think signing bonuses versus vacation accruals and a flexible work environment. In your recruiting efforts, you want to find the right mix of benefits and perks in order to attract desired candidates while satisfying company goals, policies and budget considerations. But the work doesn’t stop at hiring. Retention of top talent is equally important. Many dissatisfied employees are likely to leave their jobs in 2014. Competitive compensation and a sense of not feeling valued in the organization are the top reasons that employees look for new opportunities. A successful sourcing professional will learn to balance the benefit of immediate perks to sign on top talent with the longer term benefits required to retain them. Listen to Candidates The key ingredient in making a job offer that seals the deal with a top candidate is to listen to the candidate’s individual needs. It’s easy to assume you know what will make a candidate interested in a position and ultimately accept it. The way to ensure that you understand candidate desires is to ask probing questions and listen to the responses. Before or after reviewing your benefits package, ask the candidates which benefits would be most valuable. The answer will likely reveal their values and priorities, and it can be an indicator as to whether or not they’re a good fit for your organization and the targeted department. Just as savvy candidates are taught to ask probing questions of a potential employer, consider the questions below as you seek to gain an in-depth understanding of your candidates’ desires. What management style do you prefer? What are your expectations in terms of your work schedule? What type of training or career development is important to you? Describe the highlights of the best work environment in your current or past employment. When were you most satisfied with your job and why? Describe an ideal work week. Actively listen for key terms and concepts such as: Combine Short-Term and Long-Term Benefits You can’t give all candidates everything they want, and most candidates understand this. Offer an attractive combination of immediate, ongoing, and long-term benefits that speak to the candidates’ needs. This will help them to feel valued and respected. Younger workers often perceive an uncertain financial future, and long-term benefits that suggest security are valuable. However, frequent job changes, a surge in entrepreneurship, massive layoffs, and the slow fade of long-term careers makes a 401(k), for example, a standard perk at best. It’s not enough to stand out. The same goes for verbal promises of future advancement and raises. Even perks such as tuition reimbursement and employee referral bonuses are competitive, though they may not be competitive enough to attract a candidate. In addition to the long-term, the here and now has become more important as well. Today’s working generations are less likely to settle or suffer for many years in order to make it to a long-term work payoff. They’ve seen too many people let go just before they should have been rewarded. Luckily for you, not every perk has to cost the company excessive money. Keep in mind some of the immediate and ongoing benefits that you can offer. Upfront full vacation packages Health benefits that start immediately upon employment Signing bonuses Short-term bonus opportunities Remote work options Flexible work schedules Discounts for local and common services (cell phone packages, dry cleaning, airlines) Free lunches Onsite daycare Onsite fitness facilities and classes Paid time off for volunteer work Flexible/casual dress code One good resource as you brainstorm options is the CNN feature, “100 Best Places to Work For.” Check out the perks that these companies offer and consider ways that you can match or compete. When charming top talent, remember that we all have immediate, long-term and ongoing wants and needs. Listen to candidates for clues regarding their values and priorities. Familiarize yourself with the perks you have at your disposal so you can put them in play during interviews. Then watch your reputation as a cutting-edge employer that offers modern benefits spread like wildfire. 5 Guaranteed Strategies to Getting a Raise

5 Guaranteed Strategies to Getting a Raise 5 Guaranteed Strategies to Getting a Raise 5 Guaranteed Strategies to Getting a Raise You know what you wanthere's how to get it. You know this is your moment. You've bided your time, minded your Ps and Qs, and you're just waiting for your boss to realize and recognize all your hard work with the raise that you so richly deserve. The trouble is, you're realizing that you might have to actually prompt him or her for it. Here are fivethings to consider when you think it's time to ask about getting a raise and you want your boss toup your compensation. Remember: it's easy as ABC. A: Achievement. Show your value, what you've done for the company, your excellent performance. B: Brand. Yours and the company's, and how they fit together, how you are invaluable to the company and everybody knows it. C: Campaign. Have as much support as possible. If your colleagues think you deserve a raise, chances are your boss will too. Look to the future. It's all well and good to say: here's what I've done for you so far. But go the extra mile and show what you still have in you to do, and why that should be worth more to your boss. Make your ongoing personal career development crucial and connected to the development of your company. And keep the conversation on the great things you can achieve working together. Be prepared. That said, it's also important to have a clear outline of what youhaveachieved, and what your accomplishments have been so far. Show your boss that you've consistently gone above and beyond your job and salary parameters, and have gotten the results. Be prepared also to make your case and still not get the answer you are looking for. Do your homework. Don't go in there asking for a 25% pay bump when you know the company is making cuts and no one has gotten more than a 5% raise in the past five years. Do know your value, based on what you've done and how you're situated to do even more. Be realistic about what you can ask for in the current climate of your company. Have a precise and reasonable range in mind. Your boss will appreciate this level of attention to what's possible, and your ability to compromise. Be confident. Do so even if you don't get the raise. If you've done the necessary preparation and have a clear picture of your worth and achievements in your head, it's still cause to celebrate. It means you and your boss know exactly what you're worth. This doesn't mean be arrogant, but do enjoy the new perspective on your unique position and worth within the company. How to Handle a Background Check Gone Wrong

How to Handle a Background Check Gone Wrong How to Handle a Background Check Gone Wrong 10Imagine you find an ah-mazing job. You go through multiple rounds of interviews, fill out all the necessary information, and provide references. You even consent to a background check because, hey, what do you have to hide? So imagine your shock when you’re turned down for the job due to some egregious error on your background report. Mistakes on background checks are surprisingly common. And when you consider that the vast majority of employers conduct some type of background check, it adds up that many innocent job seekers are not being hired because of background checks gone wrong. If you’ve been the victim of a bad background check, or just want to make sure that employers are seeing the right information on you, here are some tips: Ask for a copy. When a potential employer finds something iffy on your background check, you have the right to get a copy of it according to the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act. It might be that someone with a name similar to yours (sans a middle initial, for example) has a criminal history and it somehow got attached to yours. Find the mistake(s). Once you have a copy of your report, you might (sadly) find that there is more than one inaccuracy on your record. Make a note of each and every mistake so that you can contest them all at once, rather than one at a time. Understand the errors. Your mind might be swirling at the idea of having a black mark on your background check, but you need to keep your focus while reading your report. There are some common mistakes on background checks, including: Similar names. Information revealed that was sealed or expunged. A single criminal charge is listed multiple times. Offenses are mislabeled, such as a misdemeanor is listed as a felony. An arrest is reported but the fact that no charges were filed isn’t noted. Seek out the source. Your first instinct upon finding the errors on your background check is probably to call the background screening company and ask them to fix the issue. Thing is, unless the mistake was in their reporting, background screening companies are just finding the info that’s already out there and might not be able to correct the errors. So look to these public agencies as the source of the error: Credit records Driving records Military records Past employers Educational history Criminal history Fix the issue. If you have incorrect info on your record, it unfortunately won’t go away on its own. You need to be proactive and fix it. Depending on what the issue is, you should contact the public agency associated with the error. If you’re disputing a criminal error, you should contact your state’s Bureau of Identification and file a challenge to the criminal record. If a mistake appears on your background check, it could potentially cost you the job you’re currently applying for, since it can take weeks for a mistake to be fixed. But once corrected, you can rest assured that the next background check you have for a job will be clean- and correct. Interview Coming Up? Check Out These Interview Tips

5 Booming Trade Careers That Dont Require Student Loans

5 Booming Trade Careers That Don’t Require Student Loans 5 Booming Trade Careers That Don’t Require Student Loans Want to earn a decent income when you grow up? If you believe the hype, you probably think you have to go to college - or live in your mom’s basement for the rest of your life. I’m here to tell you that’s wrong. There’s another avenue out of the basement: trade careers. Don’t believe me? Fast Company named skilled trades one of the   five jobs that will be the hardest to fill in 2025 , noting they “have large numbers of workers retiring but fewer young people choosing these careers, which are also difficult to offshore or fully automate.” And the best part? Trade careers don’t require four-year degrees (and   all the student loans  that come with them). The next time someone tells you college is the only answer, reply with this stat: According  to Explore the Trades, only   35 percent of future jobs  will require a four-year degree or higher. And then show them this list of booming trade careers, which is based on data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Note that   average job growth  across industries is five to eight percent, so a growth rate of 14 percent or more is considered “much faster than average.” According to the BLS,   wind turbine technician  is the   fastest-growing occupation  in the U.S. Plus, working on wind turbines means you’re contributing to an   important source of green energy . To enter this exploding career, you must attend a two-year technical school and complete at least one year of on-the-job training or an apprenticeship. And you can’t be afraid of heights or confined spaces. “My job is physically strenuous, so it pays more than a lot of jobs in the area,”   Reed McManus  wrote. “It brings a lot of joy to me at the end of the day when a turbine has been down for some reason and we’re able to fix it, finally see it fire up again, and produce energy.” You’ve undoubtedly heard of   electricians  and what they do. But did you know it was such a lucrative career? Or that it was growing so quickly? Probably not. To learn this trade, most electricians complete a four- or five-year paid apprenticeship, which consists of 144 hours of technical training and 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training per year. “Four years does sound like a lot of time, but don’t forget that you are ‘earning while learning,’”   electrician Jerry Higgins  wrote. “[It’s] completely worth it, however, and one of the reasons is that most everyone agrees that a journeyman electrician holds the BEST job of all the construction trades.” Wow. Can you believe the median salary of this gig? As you might imagine,   elevator mechanics  install and repair elevators, escalators, moving walkways, and other types of lifts. Elevator mechanics learn their trade through a four-year apprenticeship â€" which might be why   elevator mechanic Casey Planchon  said you should “start young, while you’re healthy and strong.” “The job has its ups and downs,” Planchon said. “But the pay, benefits, and satisfaction of building and fixing elevators, escalators, and moving walkways are the best of all the trades. If you decide to pursue this path, push hard and be safe.” Also called maintenance machinists,   industrial maintenance mechanics  diagnose and repair issues with (you guessed it) industrial machines. Unlike many jobs on this list, you don’t need to obtain an apprenticeship first. Instead, you’ll receive on-the-job training, which can last a year or more. Wondering if it’s the right path for you? OwlGuru offers a   quick career quiz  specifically for people who are considering the industrial machinery industry. HVACR technicians  (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration technicians) help you stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter. To enter the field, you can look for an apprenticeship or attend a trade school for six months to two years. “After 15 years of installing and repairing furnaces and air conditioners, I am very happy [with] the experience and knowledge I’ve gained,”   Dan Robbins  wrote.  â€œWith hands-on experience and a bit of HVAC schooling, I went from a warehouse clerk to a small-time business owner making a modest living.” The important thing to remember? A   four-year college  is not the only path to financial security. Although it can be wonderful, it can also be an expensive mistake - especially if you’re not sure which career you’d like to pursue. So before you go into debt for a degree you might not use, explore   all your options , including gap years,   volunteering , and, of course, trade careers like the ones above. Essential Skills for Todays Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants

Essential Skills for Today’s Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants Essential Skills for Today’s Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants Essential Skills for Today’s Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants Black Healthcare facilities constantly recruit new nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) for their ongoing healthcare hiring needs. These healthcare practitioners fill an important role in healthcare, often giving facilities the capacity to spend more time with patients without having to hire additional physicians. NPs and PAs receive a lot of medical training focused on clinical information and skills, with an emphasis on making patients better. Yet even great clinical skills are often not enough to be a successful healthcare provider today. New models of team-based medicine and patient care scores require your PAs and NPs to collaborate and clearly communicate. If your providers struggle in these areas, reimbursements may be impacted as well your online reputation when patients share negative feedback online. When its time to hire, what skills should you look for in a nurse practitioner or physician assistant? The following traits can help you get started: Clinical skills: While clinical skills may be just one of many abilities needed in todays healthcare world, they are still extremely important. Make sure your potential hires have the skills you need or the ability to learn them. Even better, consider whether they have skills and knowledge to pass on to your current staff. Communication skills: Verbal and written communication skills are the most important skills an NP or PA should possess. Whether working with staff or patients, these skills are vital to conveying the message with consistency, clarity and compassion. Make sure you ask about and determine potential candidates communication philosophies and skills. Flexibility: This skill is key to working in the healthcare field. Being able to provide backup is often required to propel the hospital toward future success. In addition, its more than just working the hours, it also applies to working with people of differing ages, backgrounds and personalities. Make sure candidates are aware of whats expected on the flexibility front so there are no surprises after they start working. Life balance: A good work life balance creates a better employee, makes your facility more productive and helps prevent burnout. An NP or PA who comes across as a workaholic may be good for your facility in the short-term but likely will lead to long-term burnout. Look for people who do more than just medicine. They will be happier and are likely to relate better to patients as well. Collaborative skills: Along with being flexible, it is important to adapt to changes in the healthcare market. Hospitals rely on their NPs and PAs to work well with others, and this includes both hospital staff and patients. Good candidates will have examples of past collaboration and a willingness to work together as a team. Listening skills: One of the most basic ways to connect with another person is to listen. NPs and PAs often find themselves in the role of patient advocate and likely will have more time with patients than physicians. They can also be strong advocates for your facility and your mission. They will be able to build positive relationships with both with patients and within the organization with their listening skills. Time management skills: Being able to schedule your time effectively is imperative in any career but of utmost importance for NPs and PAs. These providers are often called upon to fill in gaps and see patients quickly and seamlessly. Time management is an extremely important skill to have, so make sure your applicants have it. Poor time management leads to even bigger problems down the road and creates more stress for all staff. Organizational skills: Going hand-in-hand with time management is organizational skills. Knowing how to effectively chart EMRs and fill out paperwork is extremely valuable in new NPs and PAs. Culturalfit: This characteristic may be the most important on this list. Does the candidate understand your mission and vision? Will he or she fit in with the company culture and people already on staff? If not, you may find they just dont fit in, which can create an environment where none of your staff is happy. Tyler Black is the vice president of allied staffing at CompHealth. He places PAs, NPs, therapists, pharmacists and other allied health professionals in permanent, locum tenens and travelling positions around the country. Americans are dying younger and working longer

Americans are dying younger and working longer Americans are dying younger and working longer We’re not living as long as we used to, according to the National Health Center for Health Statistics. This federal agency found that Americans’ life expectancy, which has stalled since 2011, has now begun to drop. In 2015, the average American could expect to live 78.8 years, a 0.1-year decrease from the previous year. That may not seem like a huge difference, but a new Bloomberg News analysis  found that these mortality projections have had far-reaching consequences on 12 large companies’ pension plans. Looking at company filings, Bloomberg News found that when mortality expectancies drop, so do employers’ pension costs. Twelve companies, including Verizon and General Motors, have reduced their pension spending by a combined $9.7 billion in the last two years. It’s unclear what exactly is causing the hold-up to us living longer. Some experts have linked our mortality rates to our declining health. A 2017 study found that more working-class white Americans are dying from “ deaths of despair,” which the researchers defined as deaths by drugs, alcohol, and suicide.Living less, but working moreBut even as Americans are living less, and in some cases, getting paid less retirement money by employers, many are pushing their retirement further back. A recent Gallup survey found that most U.S. workers plan to keep working past the traditional retirement age of 65. Two in three Americans said that they planned to keep working after age 65, though they only planned for it to be part-time.Although the majority of those surveyed said they would work longer because they “want to” and not because they “have to,” the Gallup survey also noted that not everyone is working after retirement out of choice. The survey cited Americans being “overly optimistic about their retirement finances” as one reason why Americans will keep working more years than their predecessors. That makes sense. Many of us are dying with little in savings. A 2012  study  found that about 46% of U.S. senior citizens have $10,000 or less in financial assets when they die.So whether you want to or have to work longer, it’s important to recognize that your health and your finances will play a significant role in how you spend your final years.

The Idiots Handbook to What Is Objective on a Resume

The Idiot's Handbook to What Is Objective on a Resume Type of What Is Objective on a Resume As a guideline, you don't need to use each bit of the formula for your resume objective. A good resume is excellent, but nothing beats an applicant who can offer the particulars without needing to glance at the paper every second. It's necessary to comprehend the kind of resumes preferred by the establishment that you mean to work for. In the majority of instances, a resume objective is simply a couple of sentences long. What's Actually Going on with What Is Objective on a Resume An objective needs to be personally-tailored to the employer. It can limit your options because it is so specific. Ultimately, stating it is optional, but it can help convince employers that you know what you want and are familiar with the industry. It is a short statement that clarifies your goals regarding the type of employment desired and how your skills make you a good fit. The first thing you have to do is ensure a potential employer knows of whose resume they're taking a peek at! The odds of being rejected by employers are high once you've got an unprofessional resume. When creating a resume, it is crucial to investigate the objective statement, as it often makes it possible for the employer to earn a judgment on the capability of the prospective employee before even reading the remainder of the resume. A resume is also thought to be an advertisement of a person's self to a prospective employer. The Ultimate What Is Objective on a Resume Trick Whenever you wish to emphasize that you're ambitious, that you understand what you want in a career, or you have the skills for the particular job, you could benefit from a resume objective. When you're crafting your resume objective, you should concentrate on particular abilities and experiences which are directly associated with the job. Make certain the skills are related to the job which you desire. You may be a great team player. A resume objective that could apply to anybody or any sort of job isn't valuable. Functional resumes are appropriate once you have changed jobs often, don't have a whole lot of experience, or whether you are looking for a career move to a completely different field. On the other hand, they are usually used by fresh graduates or people who have less experience but would like to grab the job vacancy. The aim of the aim is to state your objective. You should be as specific as you are able to be in your objective to improve your probability of being considered in the specific position you're applying for. Entry-level objectives can be particularly hard to write as you likely don't have loads of work experience, but you do want to solidify that you know the kind of career you're searching for. The absolute most efficient objective is one which is tailored to the job you're applying for. Using What Is Objective on a Resume Lists, as a rule of thumb, are also simpler to write. Utilizing Term, you can produce your specific themes for almost any app, like resumes. Resume examples and templates are incredibly helpful, especially when you're writing one of your initial resumes. You might also have a peek at some useful resume keywords to further improve your resume. Don't use contractions and make sure that you define abbreviations or acronyms. List and describe the 3 methods for organizing a resume together with the advantages and pitfalls of each one.

The Number One Article on Basketball Coach Resume
